Precession of DI Herculis

-- Jamahl Peavey | April 30, 2022

Question:

In the article, The Eclipsing Binary DI Herculis: One Mystery Solved, But Another Takes Its Place. The statement below is made:

Further, we find evidence that the projected rotation axes of the stars may be precessing, since it appears that the value of V(rot)sini has increased over the past 30 years.

Are they saying DI Herculis, precession has changed over the years?

Answer:

I believe that in the article that you are referring to the authors are suggesting that the rotation axis of the DI Herculis eclipsing binary system is changing its position on the sky, which would indicate precession of the orbit of this system.  I don’t think that this is the same as saying that the precession itself has changed.
