Are There Measurements of the Affects of Global Climate Change on Radio Observatory Operation?

-- | September 21, 2017

Question: Dear sirs, i am a journalist and write the article, how global climate change affects space-based observations. does this process affect in radio observation? its popular article and i whould like to ask you, becouse your observatory has a long-term observation experience, do you remark any changes, more days, which are not good for observation or so on. maybe you were forced to stop some research from the astroclimate or transfer out to another lab? maybe you have an employee, who has long led the observations, and can talk about the changes in simple language. I would be very grateful for your help.  — Natalia

Answer: I am not aware of any studies of changes in weather conditions at ground-based radio observatory sites which can be attributed to global climate change.  In many cases such trends are difficult to identify due to the relatively short duration of operation for many ground-based radio observatories.
