Bright Flashing Light Saint Lucie Florida July 16 2020

-- William Santino | July 17, 2020

Question:

Good evening. I am in my front yard in port saint Lucie, Florida at 12:54am looking to the west about 30 to 45 degrees up and I am seeing a bright flashing light. Is it a star or a planet? Thank you in advance for your response.

Answer:

As with most sightings of this nature, what you are probably seeing is likely man-made.  See past posts in the Unexplained Celestial Observations category for additional examples.  Planets and stars are not bright, and they only flash in the sense that stars can “twinkle” due to the movements of our atmosphere as the light from the star moves through our atmosphere on its way to our eyes.  Hard to exactly identify without having seen it, but your description sounds like an aircraft indicator light.
