Can One Make Measurements of Line Emission at 16.4 GHz?
Question: Is it theoretically possible to separately measure hydrogen 1s 2s transition absorption and emission line frequencies? They are assumed to be the same but a small difference in the order of 16.4 GHz is proposed. Alternatively – associated with the very well established 1s 2s emissions at 2466061413187030 Hz – could one check for electron ‘rebound’ emissions at +- 16.4 GHz? — Neil
Answer: It is possible to look for emission or absorption at a frequency of 16.4 GHz. As to whether your theory that it is possible to detect “rebound” emission from the hydrogen 1s to 2s transition I cannot say, as I am not aware of a theoretical description of this mechanism.
