Can One Show the Positions of the Planets as a Linear Sequence on the Sky?

-- Ronja Bovbjerg | January 18, 2021

Question:

Hi,

Is there any way to understand the placement of the planets in a linear way, changing the planets relations to each other in regards to date and placement on earth?

I am looking for something like – yesterday the hierarchy was jupitor, sun, neptur etc etc.. today it is sun, jupitor, neptun etc. etc.

I want to make a bracelet for my sister with the plantes hierarchy on her birthday.

Best
Ronja

Answer:

Perhaps what you are looking for is a way to visualize the positions of the planets on the sky on a given day as viewed from the Earth.  I think that you can do this with the In-the-Sky 3D diagram of the solar system.  For any given date you can visualize the positions of the planets.  You could then list the planets from left to right as viewed from Earth to form the linear relationship you are looking for.
