Can Pressure Variations Associated with Acoustic Solar Core Ringing Change the Rate of Fusion in the Sun?

-- | May 20, 2018

Question: I read that radioactive decay rates for some elements show cyclic variations, possibly due to varying solar neutrino output.  Actual Question: could pressure variations from acoustic solar core ringing change the rate of fusion there? Presumably the main body of the Sun would damp out temperature oscillations, but not neutrinos. Nope. Not the neutrinos.  — Steve

Answer: No, the pressure variations associated with acoustic solar core ringing are too small to affect the rate of fusion at the core of the Sun.
