Coded Aperture Imaging in Astronomy

Question:

Dear Dr. Mangum:
May I ask if you are familiar with coded aperture, or could introduce any astronomer to me who is familiar with this technique in high-energy detection? I wish to learn how the device is operated on a telescope but could find only articles about the math principles.

Answer:

In fact, a very nice review of Coded Aperture Imaging in high-energy astrophysics was published earlier this year by J. Braga. This review should provide a nice overview of this measurement technique.
