Do Planetary Alignments Result in Catastrophic Events on Earth?

Question: Can you confirm something I had heard many years ago . True or false is what I really need to know only for the fact I have not heard a thing about it since. I believe it was march 5th 2005 that all the planets were to be aligned and the gravitational pull would be so intense it would off set the earths polars . Leaving the earth to slowly lose its pattern of rotation and causing rash climat changes? So I ask is that a fact or is that just something that went by the waist side as news seems to do.? — Colin

Answer: False. One of my astronomer colleagues, Dave Kornreich, has provided a very nice summary of the “planetary alignment” phenomenon and how it has been misrepresented over the years.
