Do blackholes only form as a by-product stellar nucleosynthesis or are there gravity wells that exist without an initial collapse?

Yes. Black holes form from the gravitational collapse of a massive object such as the remnants of a massive star at the end of its life.

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory is a facility of the U.S. National Science Foundation operated under cooperative agreement by Associated Universities, Inc.
	Founded in 1956, the NRAO provides state-of-the-art radio telescope facilities for use by the international scientific community.
