Does the Universe Have an Edge, and What is it Expanding Into?

-- Aakash | April 14, 2020

Question:

My Question is how big is space, We know universe is expanding and its expanding very fast, so what is universe expanding to, is there boundary to space or is it infinite.

Answer:

Our current understanding is that the universe appears to be infinitely big.  What is actually happening is that the space between everything in the universe is getting stretched, which results in our seeing all galaxies in the universe, which are not under the influence of local gravity like a cluster of galaxies, moving away from all other galaxies.  It also appears that the Universe does not have an “edge”.  For a more in-depth explanation of this rather odd fact, check out this page at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
