Higher Incidence of Meteors Hitting Earth or Better Reporting?

Question: There has been a lot in the news lately of reports of fireballs and meteors. Is there an increase in the amount or are we just becoming better at reporting them? — Mo

Answer: There is no evidence to suggest that there has been an increase in the number of fireballs and meteors striking the Earth recently. As you suggest, we are just getting better at spotting these things.

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory is a facility of the U.S. National Science Foundation operated under cooperative agreement by Associated Universities, Inc.
