How Many Years Do You Have to be in College to Become an Astronomer?

-- | July 15, 2016

Question: Hi, I’m an 15 year old girl, who wants to know how many years do you have to be in college to study to become an astronomer?  — Nikita

Answer: The answer to this question depends upon what sort of degree in astronomy that you would like to pursue.  It can be anywhere from 2 to approximately 7 years of graduate school (after you get a bachelor’s degree).  I would recommend that you review the answers to very similar questions like this in the Careers in Astronomy section of this blog.  If you do not find what you are looking for there, let me know.
