Inconsistency Between the Age and Radius of the Universe

-- | February 9, 2017

Question: I see often estimates that the universe is 46 billion light years in extent.  However, it is only 13.8 billion years old, and expanded from a single point in the Big Bang.  How did it expand to 46 billion light years–or 23 billion from a central point–in only 13.8 billion years?  — Mike

Answer: See my answer to a very similar question regarding an apparent inconsistency between the age and diameter of the universe.
