Temperature Required to Fuse Hydrogen on Earth (Clarification)

-- Amy | November 20, 2024

Question:

Dear Jeff,
You answered someone’s question that hydrogen requires 100 million degrees kelvin to fuse. I believe this is incorrect. I think it is 10 million degrees kelvin and helium requires 100 million degrees to fuse into carbon. Thanks

Answer:

I believe that my answer to the question What is the Minimum Temperature Required to Fuse Hydrogen Atoms? referred to conditions on Earth (which was, I believe, the context of the question asked).  I have clarified that answer.  Thank you for pointing this out!
