Question:

What would happen, if the Earth became irrevocably tidally locked to the Sun, while the Moon kept on orbiting it, while continuing to exert its influential effects upon the Earth? Would it therefore destabilize the Earth too much as a result thus having catastrophic effects, or would things carry on much as they are today?

Answer:

Actually, this question has been quite well answered on INSH.  Basically, it would be all bad.  One side of the Earth being continuously heated by the sun would result in all manner of extreme weather conditions and a general disruption of life cycles on Earth.
