Question:

In what molecular form is carbon found on C-type asteroids? i.e. Is it bonded to other elements, or is it pure in some form such as graphite or pyrolytic carbon?

C-type asteroids, as their name implies, are carbonaceous, consisting of clay, minerals, and silicate rocks and are believed to be relics from the formation of our Solar System.

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory is a facility of the U.S. National Science Foundation operated under cooperative agreement by Associated Universities, Inc.
