What Programming Languages are used in Astronomy?

-- Shourov | July 6, 2020

Question:

What kind of programming language is needed for Astrophysical or Astronomical studies and why?

-- Shourov

Answer:

Astronomers use a wide range of programming languages to conduct observational and theoretical studies of the universe.  Some examples are C, C++, and python.  Even fortran is still used in some contexts.  All of these languages are adaptable to the interpretation of complex mathematics and physical models, which makes the necessary tools for the study of astronomy.
