What Software Does NRAO Use to Analyze and Archive its Telescope Data?

-- Daniel | October 24, 2019

Question:

Dear scientist on duty,
I am an intern at the Wendelstein X-7 and have been tasked to evaluate Frameworks to possibly implement several analysis software. I would like to know how you process and archive datasets at the observatory.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Answer:

In general NRAO develops its own software to handle nearly all tasks associated with the acquisition, reduction, analysis, and archiving of its telescope data.  For example, reduction and analysis of data from NRAO’s telescopes is processed by the Common Astronomy Software Applications (CASA) software package.  For the most part NRAO’s software development utilizes python and c++ as its core development environments.
