Broadening Participation Programs – National Radio Astronomy Observatory

ODI creates pipelines for under-represented students to have access to educational, financial, and networking opportunities in order to be able participate in and contribute to the Radio Astronomy field. ODI takes a multi-faceted approach– working with institutions and individuals to have deep and sweeping impacts. RADIAL Through partnerships with universities and other institutions, ODI works towards structural equity, facilitating improved k-12 educational materials, data access, and broadening participation in STEM majors.
NAC Through the NAC program, exceptional undergraduate students, who may have been overlooked through traditional pipelines, participate in research opportunities with financial, mentoring, and peer support.
NINE In the NINE program, graduate students, faculty, or staff affiliated with a university or a research facility, receive training to create a hub that reaches younger learners to educate them, and get them enthused about Radio Astronomy and other STEM areas.
Chile Exceptional undergraduate students participate in internships at the Joint ALMA Observatory in Chile.

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory is a facility of the National Science Foundation operated under cooperative agreement by Associated Universities, Inc.
	Founded in 1956, the NRAO provides state-of-the-art radio telescope facilities for use by the international scientific community. NRAO telescopes are open to all astronomers regardless of institutional or national affiliation. Observing time on NRAO telescopes is available on a competitive basis to qualified scientists after evaluation of research proposals on the basis of scientific merit, the capability of the instruments to do the work, and the availability of the telescope during the requested time. NRAO also provides both formal and informal programs in education and public outreach for teachers, students, the general public, and the media.
	The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense..."
